PLANT CONSERVATION LEADERSHIP AWARD
Description: The Plant Conservation Leadership Award honors an individual who has made significant contributions to public awareness and/or behavioral changes in public attitudes related to botanical diversity in North Carolina. This award celebrates the tangible achievements of a person who promotes plant conservation and a sustainable environment in North Carolina.

Selection criteria: The nominee should be an individual who is responsible for successfully implementing plant conservation and environmental sustainability policies. The award recipient: a) has demonstrated environmental leadership in plant conservation meetings or events; b) has successfully implemented business practices focused on plant conservation; or c) has established and put into practice specific plant conservation policies and the strategies that assure their success.

Membership in FoPC is not required.


DISTINGUISHED MEMBER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Description: The Distinguished Member of the Year Award honors members who have made exemplary contributions to the Friends of Plant Conservation.

Selection criteria: The nominee should be an individual who has rendered outstanding service to the Friends of Plant Conservation, either during the previous year or under special circumstances that may not occur again.
Please provide information that strengthens the nomination including: a) a description of how the individual’s actions have contributed to the success of FoPC; b) contributions to FoPC (board, committees, speaking, authoring articles, volunteering, etc.); c) testimonial letters from FoPC members; d) contributions to mentoring new members of FoPC; and e) number of years as an FoPC member.

A nominee must be a member of FoPC.

PLANT CONSERVATION EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD
Description: Recognizing that the future of plant conservation in North Carolina depends on a well-educated public, the Educator of the Year Award honors elementary, middle, and high school teachers, college and university faculty, and other public educators for outstanding contributions to the education of North Carolina citizens.

Selection criteria: The nominees should exhibit exceptional educational content in presentations or teachings and/or research and have a strong record of professional involvement.
Please provide information that strengthens the nomination including: a) an indication of the quality and impact of the nominee’s educational program; b) a sense of the nominee’s student mentoring and student development; c) relevant volunteer roles; d) positions held/academic rank; e) articles and publications; f) professional affiliations; g) number of years as an educator; h) testimonials from students, colleagues, program participants.

Membership in FoPC is not required.


HONORARY MEMBER
Description:  For on-going exemplary service to the Friends of Plant Conservation and to the mission of plant conservation.

Criteria: A nominee demonstrates selfless commitment to FoPC in areas including but not limited to education, communication, membership, administrative responsibilities, or service to the board and members.

Only five Honorary Members shall be maintained on the membership roll at a given time. Honorary memberships shall be for the life of the member. If an Honorary Member becomes inactive, the membership chair may contact the member to determine continuing interest. If interest lags, the membership chair may recommend dropping the person from the rolls. 

OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD
Description: The Outstanding Service Award honors a FoPC member who has made exemplary contributions to the organization.

The Outstanding Service Award honors and celebrates an individual who demonstrates outstanding  dedication to Friends of Plant Conservation in areas including education, communication, membership, or community service to support the conservation of native flora in North Carolina. 

Criteria: A nominee will demonstrate dedication to FoPC in areas including, but not limited to education, communication, membership or community service. The nominee demonstrates the ability to mentor, develop and impassion new leaders. Please provide information that strengthens the nomination including: a) a description of the service to education, communication, membership and community as it relates to FoPC; b) committee work for the organization; c) contributions in mentoring new leaders within the organization; d) relevant volunteer roles in FoPC; and e) other pertinent information (testimonials, previous honors, professional designations, etc.).

PLANT CONSERVATION STUDENT AWARD
Description: The Plant Conservation Student Award is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student who has contributed significantly to the conservation of imperiled plants and their habitats in the southeastern United States.

Criteria: Membership in FoPC is not required. A nominee will demonstrate understanding of the principles of ecology and plant conservation, and will have successfully conducted research that promotes the understanding of the ecology and/or conservation needs of imperiled plant taxa in the southeastern United States. Please provide information that documents their participation in plant conservation research and academic achievement. This may include leading public outreach activities and volunteer time towards plant conservation activities. 

Membership in FoPC is not required.

Members are welcome to submit nominations.  Use the Contact Us form to submit any nominations, be sure to include why you feel they are deserving of the award. Nominations should be submitted at least one month prior to the Annual Meeting.
